Happy New Year! To welcome in 2016, I decided to do a look back at the days of the previous year. It was a red-letter year for me in a lot of ways—below are some of the highlights of my 2015. SLIPPING: This was a video exhibition I did with my friend Doug, consisting of two videos played simultaneously, each of which contrasts and complements the other. We explored themes of temporality, persistence and passing, and repetition. Graduation: I graduated from Grinnell College with a B.A. in Theatre (with honors, as the icing on the cake). I was awarded the department’s Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship, a true honor and privilege. Translations: I took the stage again this fall as Jimmy Jack in Translations, bringing a kooky, lonely Irishman to life in Brian Friel’s masterpiece. Working on the set was an incredible experience, the ensemble was one of the best I’ve worked with, and the whole experience was beautiful. Christmas School: And finally, to close out the year, I participated once again in Christmas Country Dance School, a week of friends, fun, and folk dancing between Christmas and New Year’s. We learn new skills during the day, dancing the night away after the sun goes down, all the while reveling in the presence of immensely talented people from all across the country (and from a couple different countries, too), most of whom we only meet here.
